M.A. in Art Therapies - Visual Art Therapy - For English Speakers at Ono International School
Ono International School offers an M.A degree in art therapies with a specialization in visual art therapy. This is the only master’s program in art therapies in Israel conducted in English and designed especially for English-speakers. For those interested the program also offers a Hebrew Ulpan to support graduates’ professional integration in Israel.
The master’s in visual art therapy is led by esteemed lecturers with extensive therapeutic backgrounds, who present engaging case studies and innovative treatment methods which have gained international recognition. What will you study?
The master’s program in art therapies trains professionals in visual art therapy. This is a distinctive field within the therapeutic professions which prepares graduates to work in a myriad of therapeutic, educational, and rehabilitative settings. Practitioners use the language of visual art to offer innovative therapeutic approaches and provide meaningful responses to various communities and populations.
The program consists of the following components:
- Theories and methods in visual art therapy.
- Foundational knowledge in psychology.

- Supervised clinical and educational fieldwork.
What is the duration of studies?
This master’s degree program spans 3 years: two years of studies and one year of clinical and practical training.
The program includes one intensive study day on-campus, along with practical training conducted off-campus. The first year includes half a day of clinical training, the second and third years include two weekly days of clinical training.

In addition, this program includes courses focused on approaches in art therapy related to trauma; CBT enrichment; mind-body approaches; advanced psychotherapy; parent training; and more.

What are the admission requirements and prerequisites?
According to the Israeli council of Higher Education and the Ministry of Health, the following requirements are necessary for admission to the M.A in Art Therapy:
1. A recognized bachelor’s degree (in any field) with a GPA of 80 and above.
2. Academic Prerequisites
Candidates must provide proof of completing prior psychology courses. They are required to complete 9 psychology prerequisite courses with a minimum passing grade of 80 and above for each course.
- Introduction to psychology (2 credits).
- Developmental psychology (4 credits).
- Psychopathology (4 credits).
- Personality theories (2 credits).
- Research methods (2 credits).
- Psychophysiology (2 credits).
- Statistics (2 credits).
3. Art-Based Courses:
Those who are not from the field of the arts are required the following supplementations:
- 300 hours of formal training in visual arts (drawing, painting, and sculpting) from recognized institutions.
- 200 hours of artwork in a variety of creative materials (60 hours per modality) and a portfolio of 15 art works.
- Applicants who do not meet the academic and art prerequisites may complete the missing courses at Ono International School.
What scholarships are available?
Students may apply for various scholarships, both internal (merit-based and needs-based scholarships) and external (Ministry of Aliyah scholarships for new Olim, and scholarships via organizations).
What academic degree is granted?
Upon completion of all academic requirements, including the field training hours, students are awarded an M.A Master of Arts in Creative Arts Therapies with a specialization in art therapy.
What career paths are available for graduates?
Graduates may pursue art therapist roles in various settings, such as hospitals, HMO’s, educational frameworks, rehabilitation frameworks, housing frameworks, mental health clinics, private clinics, early intervention centers, and more.
