The master program in German and European studies at The University of Haifa is an international program studied in English. It operates as part of the HCGES - the Haifa Center for German and European Studies, a joint venture with the DAAD (German Academic Exchange). This venture aims to assist researchers and students to focus on a wide variety of topics related to modern Europe since 1945.
 
During their studies in this international master's program, students approach German history and culture from an interdisciplinary point of view. They also deal with relevant Israeli and Jewish perspectives and Europe - Middle East relations.
 

Study program
 
Students in this program expand their knowledge of Germany and Europe. The track uses the ‘area studies’ model to present an interdisciplinary image of Germany. Students examine relevant issues in politics, economics, geography, sociology, history, environmental studies and literature. In addition, they broaden their command of German.
 

Structure and duration
 
This program can be completed in one or two calendar years. Students may choose between a thesis track and a non-thesis track with a final exam.
 
Suring their studies, students take part in theoretic courses and seminars. In addition, they participate in a study tour to Germany and other countries in Europe. During this tour they visit EU institutions and relevant sites. The tour focuses on a theme that changes each year. It involves additional cost.

German - Israeli relations
Principles in European law
 

Faculty
 
The head of the program, Professor Stefan Ihrig, is a professor of history whose research focuses on history of Europe and the Middle East as well, as media and political discourses.
 

Admissions
 
To apply, candidates must comply with the following requirements:
 
BA degree with a grade of 80% and above
Candidates from abroad must have completed their degree in accredited universities with a GPA of 3.0 and above (80%)
Those who have not native English speakers or who have completed their undergraduate degree in a language other than English must pass a TOEFL English proficiency test. The required grade is 570 and over in the paper-based exam, 89 in the internet test or 230 and above in the computerized version. Alternately, they may show a grade of 6 and above in an IELTS exam.
 

Diploma
 
Upon completing their studies, graduates receive a master (MA) degree in German and European studies from the University of Haifa.
 

About the university
 
At The University of Haifa, international students can study in English in various master programs.
