What's a better place to study about Israel than in Tel Aviv? The city is a business and cultural capital, and has a significant political role in both domestic and international spheres. You can practice your Hebrew in everyday conversations, meet new people, go out to parties or spend your days on the beach.

 

Study Program

 

Tel Aviv University offers an M.A. track in Israel studies that aims to provide students with a full look at the State of Israel in terms of politics, economics and sociology. The program includes classes that focus both on the past and present, so students can get an in depth understanding to the processes that led Israel to become the country it is today.

 

In addition to in class learning, students also participate in different activities, such as: study trips around Israel, a weekly meeting with various Israelis - each from a different background, guest lectures by politicians and journalists and much more.

 

All students must learn Hebrew. Arabic lessons are optional. In addition to courses offered by the Israel Studies department, students may elect classes from relevant other fields, such as - Jewish Studies or Middle Eastern Studies.

 

Studies Structure

 

This Master's program is designed to be completed in three consecutive semesters (10 months) and it is a non-thesis track. If students wish to complete a thesis they are required to stay for an additional semester. All courses in the program, apart from language classes are in English.

Faculty

 

The faculty at Tel Aviv University includes: an award winning researcher and author who specializes in Jewish Culture; a fellow at Moshe Dayan Center that is an expert on the Arab world; a fellow at the Kantor Center whose researches focus on the effect of the Holocaust on Israeli society; award winning researcher who focuses on law in Mandatory Palestine and the State of Israel; and others.

 

Admissions

 

Applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree in a relevant area (Politics, Middle Eastern Studies etc.) with a GPA of 3.0 (80) or above. Furthermore, Applicants need to hand in two letters of recommendation and a personal essay.

 

Academic Diploma

 

Graduates receive an M.A. in Israel Studies from Tel Aviv University.
