International MA in Political Science & Political Communication at Tel Aviv University

 

Shaping Positions, Controlling Influence

 

Politics and Communication have long been linked in two main spheres: elections and public criticism. These two domains are vital and inseparable in democratic societies and they play a massive role in undemocratic regimes as well. A background in both political science and communication can be a great starting point for people who consider careers in journalism, campaign management, political consulting and more.

 

Study Program

 

Tel Aviv University's international M.A. in Political Science and Political Communication program intertwines theoretical background in both fields with research and practical experience. The department is home to Israel national election studies, which means students may intern in researches conducted by the center regarding Israeli public opinion, past and present electoral campaigns etc. students may also intern in governmental and municipal offices and campaigns. A list of intern options is updated and published every year.


Study Structure

 

The 10 months (3 semesters) M.A. program is entirely in English. Studies take place twice a week. In case students wish to complete a thesis, they must take at least one additional semester. Proposal of the research must be submitted before the end of the third semester.

 

The program includes several study tours and lectures of politicians, journalists and election professionals. Participants hear from campaign leaders and elected politicians about their experience in the field of political communication, as well as from journalists who cover current events in Israel, about their role and their influence on public opinion.

Faculty

 

Faculty members at Tel Aviv University include: a specialist on political communications and social activism; an expert on the use of media by terrorists; an outstanding researcher of political psychology; and media professionals including leading journalists.

 

Admissions

 

Candidates must submit their undergraduate grade transcripts and a 3-page long personal essay. Only applicants with a GPA of 3.0 (80) or above are considered. In case applicants are not native English speakers they are required to pass an English proficiency exam (a minimum of 7.0 in IELTs or 573 in TOEFL).
