M.A. in Ancient Israel Studies at Tel-Aviv University

 

 

Tel-Aviv University offers an international master's program in ancient Israel studies. This program allows students to delve deep into the history of Israel and acquire practical skills in archaeological research. The track also includes various tours and excavations, so students can get to know the history of the biblical period in the place it took place.

Study program 
 
Students in this program can gain advanced knowledge regarding Israel’s ancient past and the region’s history back to biblical times. This program allows students to broaden their understanding of research on biblical, historical and archaeological topics, while acquainting themselves with cutting edge scientific tools and research methods.

The program includes extensive field work. Students visit archaeological sites and excavations and gain hands-on experience. They join excavations to various sites in Israel such as Masada, Megiddo, The City of David in Jerusalem, and more.

 

Duration and structure 
 
This track spans one year. An optional one year thesis track is also available.

- Field Archaeology.
- Ancient Languages.
- Archaeology of Jerusalem.
- History of the land of Israel.
- Transitional periods in archaeology.
- Stamp seals from the southern levant.
- Judah under Babylonian and Persian Rule.

Faculty members are renowned archaeological scholars. They mentor their student throughout their studies and assist them in gaining the relevant practical experience and academic knowledge in this field.
 

 

Admission requirements

 

 

Admission requirements are as follows:

- Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 and above.
- Diploma and official transcript.
- Certified English translations of transcripts.
- Proof of English proficiency – for applicants from non-English speaking countries.
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one of them from an academic source).
- Personal essay, up to 600 words long, describing the applicant’s choice of this track and its contribution to their professional aspirations.

Graduates are awarded an M.A. degree in The International Program in Ancient Israel Studies.

Graduates can utilize the broad skillset acquired in this program to pursue career paths in research institutes and organizations, both in Israel and across the world. Among these roles are researchers and consultants in resource and heritage firms, teaching roles in higher-education institutes, museum curators, and more. In addition, holders if an Israeli ID or work visa can pursue roles in the Israeli Antiquity Authority, Nature and Parks Authority, and The Israel Existing Foundation.
