M.A. in Security and Diplomacy at Tel Aviv University

Tel Aviv University's master's program in Security and Diplomacy provides students with a comprehensive view of world politics and military conflicts with special emphasis on Israel and the Middle East.

Security and Diplomacy are two sides of the same coin – foreign affairs. Each country may use either or both to gain its purposes in the global arena or to protect itself. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Israeli ongoing conflict with the Palestinians and the rise of new terrorist organizations such as Boko Haram, require the countries involved to consider and reconsider their decisions regarding homeland security and diplomacy every step of the way.

Study Program

The international master's track includes theoretical courses, field trips and internships opportunities. During the field trips, students have the chance to meet Israeli and foreign officials who speak of their own personal experience in the Middle East. Students will also take part in simulations and workshops that will give them insight into the dilemmas decision makers face each day.

During their studies, students can develop analytical tools for the study of diplomacy, strategy, decision making, and foreign policy. Studies are applied to a global outlook and focus on the Middle East and Israel while addressing contemporary issues in these diplomatic regions.

Students may intern in Israeli and international offices and NGOs during their studies. A list of openings is published at the start of each year. In addition to their mandatory courses, students may also take either Hebrew lessons or Arabic classes.
